Developed through extensive walking, research and material exploration along the Thames, Thames Matter investigates how the physical materials of a place can be transformed into contemporary objects. Beill incorporates London Clay collected from the river into her ceramic process, processing and blending it with black stoneware and tempering it with sands gathered from the foreshore. The resulting clay body carries physical traces of the Thames within each piece.

The collection also incorporates urban waste materials, including reclaimed glass, into ash and mineral glaze recipes derived from materials collected along the river. These processes create flowing surfaces and layered finishes that reflect the shifting textures, colours and movement of the Thames tidal landscape.

The new body of work will make its public debut as part of Material Matters at Shoreditch Design Week, building on growing recognition for Beill's material-led practice. Her recent accolades include the Cockpit Make It Award (2025) and the Blackdot Gallery Material Narrative Award at London Craft Week (2026).
