TILT brings a new way of switching on light to London Design Festival

TILT brings a new way of switching on light to London Design Festival

Ed Heritage Stand: E11
Designed around the idea that everyday interactions can be more intuitive and joyful, TILT removes the need for a conventional visible switch. Instead, the lamp is turned on and off by gently tilting the object itself, making movement an integral part of the design.

Inspired in part by the Japanese philosophy of Ikigai — the joy and meaning found in everyday life — TILT transforms the simple act of switching on a light into a small, satisfying ritual. The design explores how thoughtful interaction can bring a little more delight to ordinary moments.

Originally developed through Ed Heritage’s MA design work at Kingston School of Art in 2018, TILT has evolved through years of prototyping and refinement into a finished product combining solid European ash, glass and metal.

The design explores the relationship between object, movement and user, transforming the simple act of switching on a light into a tactile interaction.

“I wanted the action of switching on a light to feel like part of the object itself, rather than something separate from it. With TILT, the movement becomes the interaction.”
— Ed Heritage, Designer

Visitors to London Design Festival will be invited to pick up TILT and experience the tilting interaction for themselves at House of ICON, Shoreditch Town Hall, 15–17 September 2026.

TILT is available in Black Ash and Burnt Orange and is currently stocked by Heal’s in the UK.
