Magicsimsim
Simi Biswas & Varun Kumar are both alumni of NIFT, New Delhi (Class of 2003 & 2002 respectively) and have honed their surface ornamentation skills all over the globe from the tiny by lanes of Old Delhi and Udaipur to the glitz and glamour of high couture in Dubai and London.
The culmination of this two-decade long journey is Magicsimsim, a celebration of the exquisite art of hand embroidery, a heritage craftsmanship form that dates all the way back to the Rigvedic ages. Drawing inspiration from the rich Indian traditions of mythology, folklore and visual storytelling, the husband wife duo, with their team of talented artists and inter-generational master artisans, create visual and textural stories using intricate techniques like Ari, Zardozi, Pitta, Marori, Phulkari and many others.
Each artwork is intrinsically Indian in its aesthetics and portrays the subcontinent’s innate love for joyful color, texture, and surface ornamentation. Magicsimsim’s main aim is to recreate the exquisite hand embroidery traditions of ancient India, where this craft was coveted by royalty all over the world and, indeed, unified the globe in admiration & love.
