Ujjval Shah founded her practice Noya with a strong foundation in both graphic and textile design, having honed her skills through a Post graduate in Textile Design at the National Institute of Design (NID) and extensive hands-on training with traditional artisans.
The origins of her work are deeply rooted in grassroots craft documentation and handloom cluster development projects, where she collaborated closely with weaving and printing communities to integrate traditional techniques—such as Bandhani, Ajrakh, and natural dyeing—with innovative materials.
Over the years, her practice has evolved from institutional consulting and artisan capacity-building into an entrepreneurial venture focused on designing custom, large-scale textile artworks for diverse architectural environments, including corporate offices , commercial spaces and residential interiors.
Today, as she focuses on customizing textile art of all scales, her work remains guided by the core principles of preserving indigenous craftsmanship, fostering socio-economic empowerment for craftspeople, and bridging the gap between heritage techniques and contemporary design.
