Simple Acoustics
Noise, reverberation and sensory demands within busy environments can create significant barriers to communication, concentration, regulation, wellbeing and participation. Simple Safe Spaces provide a calmer acoustic environment within the wider space, giving individuals somewhere to regulate, refocus, communicate, work or simply take time away from environmental demands.
Bringing together specialist acoustic expertise with real-world education, SEND and inclusion experience, our approach is rooted in the Social Model of Inclusion and informed by neuroaffirmative practice. We recognise and respect neurological difference, focusing on understanding individual needs and removing environmental barriers rather than expecting people to change, mask or adapt to environments that do not work for them.
Simple Safe Spaces can be tailored to different people, purposes and settings, with careful consideration given to acoustics, accessibility, comfort and inclusive design. They are not designed around a diagnosis or label, but around the needs of the individual and the barriers they may experience within a particular environment.
Sustainability is equally important to us. Our acoustic materials are manufactured using recycled plastic, demonstrating that environmental responsibility and inclusive design can work hand in hand.
While our experience is deeply rooted in education and SEND, the principles behind Simple Safe Spaces extend far beyond the classroom. Workplaces, public buildings and other shared environments can all create sensory and acoustic barriers. Providing thoughtfully designed spaces within them can help make those environments more accessible and inclusive for a much wider range of people.
Ultimately, Simple Safe Spaces are not about changing the individual. They are about changing the environment — recognising and respecting human difference, removing barriers and creating spaces where more people can feel safe, comfortable, included and able to thrive.
