Founded by designer Upasana Jain, Artisanal Abode is a contemporary design studio based in Pune, India, working at the intersection of craft, material research, and collectible design. The studio creates furniture, sculptural works and architectural installations that reinterpret traditional craftsmanship through a contemporary lens, blurring the boundaries between art, design, and architecture.

At the heart of the practice is Weaving in Metal, an ongoing exploration that challenges conventional perceptions of material. The collection begins with a simple question: How can metal, a material synonymous with strength and permanence, embody the softness, fluidity and tactility of textile? By translating the ancient craft of basket weaving into stainless steel, brass and copper, Artisanal Abode transforms rigid industrial materials into woven surfaces that feel unexpectedly light, expressive, and tactile.

Every piece is woven by hand using precision-cut metal strips and developed through extensive experimentation with weave structures, density, scale, and finish. Rather than treating weaving as ornament, the studio uses it as a structural and expressive language; allowing material, light and shadow to shape each object's character.

Working closely with Master Artisans, Artisanal Abode bridges traditional knowledge with contemporary making. The resulting works celebrate the intelligence of handcraft while expanding its possibilities through material innovation, creating collectible pieces that are both deeply rooted in heritage and unmistakably contemporary.

Through furniture, sculptural objects and architectural commissions, the studio continues to redefine what weaving can become, thus transforming one of humanity's oldest craft traditions into a new language for contemporary collectible design.
