Josh Ling Studio is an East London furniture design practice exploring the potential of British timber through contemporary craft. Drawing on research into woodland ecology and sustainable forestry, the studio creates pieces that celebrate the natural diversity and character of wood while challenging conventional ideas about material selection and manufacture.
Increase the Noise, its debut furniture collection, created during a residency at Makerversity in Somerset House. Inspired by research into mixed-species British glulam beams, the collection includes a chair, coffee table, bench, side table and stool made from Ash, elm, oak and London plane. By revealing the varied grain and colour within each laminated component, the work demonstrates how embracing natural variation can reduce waste and encourage a more diverse approach to timber.
