LightMass^ by Raw-Edges Design Studio is an innovative lighting collection that reimagines the role of the pendant lampshade in the age of LED technology. Designed by London-based Raw-Edges founders Yael Mer and Shay Alkalay, the collection transforms lighting into sculptural, weightless large forms that define and enrich space through light, transparency, and movement. Each piece is named after its remarkably low weight, reflecting the collection's signature balance of generous volume and minimal material use.
Produced using additive manufacturing and a single filament, LightMass^ combines artistic expression with technological innovation. Its intricate open-mesh structures create a distinctive "lantern effect," capturing and reshaping light while eliminating production waste and simplifying future recycling. The mould-free manufacturing process also enables bespoke sizes, patterns, colours, and compositions, making the collection highly adaptable for architectural and interior projects.
Celebrated for its pioneering approach to sustainable lighting design, LightMass^ has received widespread international recognition for its innovative fusion of craftsmanship, digital fabrication, environmental responsibility, and sculptural design. In 2025, the collection won the EDIDA (ELLE Deco International Design Awards) Best Lighting of the Year, was awarded the prestigious Design Guild Mark for excellence in British industrial design, and was named Frame Awards 2025 Lighting Product of the Year.
