A cluster of hanging lights that breathe. Left alone, they pulse slowly. Step in front of them and their behaviour changes. A relationship between object and human.
This project began with sitting for long periods outside, recording movement. The natural world is constantly moving, and we almost never look long enough to see it. Give it a few seconds of attention and it reveals itself. Drawing on the Scottish folklore of the will-o'-the-wisp, the lights borrow that quality of something secret but vividly alive, glimpsed at the edge of a wood.
Oscar's practice sits at the intersection of the mechanical and the living. He is interested in what happens when the objects we live alongside begin to relate back to us - work made as anomalies, to provoke curiosity and to question what "inanimate" really means.
Designed for interiors or for hanging outdoors in trees.
