Sensory mapping; Designing more predicatable and inclusive experiences

17 Sept 2026
Neuroplaces Conference, Protein Studios

Sensory maps are a valuable pre-visit resource to help identify the sensory experiences within the built environment. They help to map the environment indicating elements such as noise levels, smells, light, material textures, crowds, rest points, temperature and interactive elements/exhibits, helping to make an experience more predictable. Sensory maps can benefit everyone, and are particularly helpful for people with sensory processing differences (common amongst neurodivergent people).

The workshop will be a creative and collaborative opportunity to provide feedback about sensory experiences in the space (e.g. light, sound, smells, textures), which will feed into the design of a sensory map for future events.

Speakers
Madeleine Granland, Senior Accessibility and Inclusive Design Consultant - Mima
