The KitchenAid Luminaire Design Series 2026 makes its debut

The story began in 1908, when engineer Herbert Johnston envisioned a machine to ease the work of mixing dough. The first domestic KitchenAid model reached kitchens in 1919. The silhouette we recognise today was created in 1937 by industrial designer Egmont Arens. His Model K introduced the distinctive curved head, tapering column and planted base - a design that has remained remarkably unchanged for nearly 90 years. In 1997, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art selected the KitchenAid stand mixer as an icon of American design.
THE DESIGN SERIES
Released in limited editions rather than as a permanent line, each Design Series model is conceived as a collector’s piece and sits apart from the core range. The latest introduction is the KitchenAid Luminaire Design Series Artisan Plus 4.7L Tilt-Head Stand Mixer with Fluted Glass Bowl. Finished in Blue Peppercorn, a calming inky blue with a velvet-like crinkle finish, its tactile surface offers bring a contemporary interpretation to the iconic silhouette.
At the heart of Luminaire is a fluted hardened glass bowl, illuminated by the Artisan Plus integrated LED bowl light. The textured glass captures and diffuses the light, casting elegant patterns across the worktop, while its hardened construction offers strength and scratch resistance for everyday use.
Polished metallic accents, a colour-matched trim band and control knob, and a fluted Luminaire hub cover complete a design where every element has been considered. The result is a stand mixer designed to be as beautiful to display as it is enjoyable to use.
MEET THE DESIGNER: BRITTNI PERTIJS
The designer behind the 2026 Design Series is Brittni Pertijs, KitchenAid’s Lead Colour, Material and Finish Designer. Pertijs comments: “Colour, material and finish design is the most consequential discipline in product design. It determines not what an object is, but how it looks and feels to live with. It encompasses the development of individual palettes and the finishes that bring them to life - the difference between a colour that photographs well and one that still looks right in a north-facing kitchen in February.”
SEVEN DECADES OF COLOUR
KitchenAid introduced its first four colours in 1955, transforming colour from a decorative detail into a defining part of the stand mixer’s design. Today, it offers the widest range of stand mixer colours on the market, with the Design Series taking this philosophy further, blurring the lines between appliance and art through colour, texture and premium materials, transforming one of the kitchen’s most recognised appliances into a sculptural centrepiece designed to inspire creativity every day.
