The Curatorial Team presents Design Intelligentsia through collaboration as a condition; where the integrity of the work lies in its multiplicity, and making becomes a shared, continuous act.

How can traditional knowledge, materials and making practices find new expressions within contemporary design? Bringing together practices working across parametric design, textile art, artisanal objects and furniture, this conversation explores the diverse ways in which South Asian craft is being reinterpreted today. From translating digital processes into craft-based production and reimagining traditional visual languages to discovering new possibilities within natural materials and collaborating closely with artisan communities, the participating practices share a common interest in transforming inherited knowledge into new design vocabularies.

The discussion reflects on the evolving relationship between technology, material experimentation, craftsmanship and cultural continuity.

Gallery walkthrough and shared design narratives on Material Memories with Studio Khambatta, Arrti Mansighka, Neha Lad, Rachna Garodia

Material Memories explores how materials can carry traces of place, time, landscape and human experience. Bringing together practices working across textiles, weaving, furniture and material-based art, the conversation considers material not simply as a medium of production, but as a repository of memory and meaning. From foraged and discarded materials to cloth, wood and transformed surfaces, each practice reveals a distinct relationship with processes of preservation, transformation and making.

The discussion reflects on how inherited skills, lived histories and material experimentation can generate new forms and narratives, while allowing materials themselves to become active participants in the creative process.

Gallery walkthrough and shared design narratives on Material Transformations with Takshni, The Padme Hum Studio, Radha Patel & Chissock Woodcraft

Material Transformations brings together practices that explore making as an act of reimagining, preservation and change. From craft traditions brought together through concept-driven collaborations to sculptures that preserve stories and reclaimed timber given a renewed purpose, each practice engages with materials that carry histories of their own. The conversation explores how the act of making can transform both material and meaning, creating new relationships between people, objects and their environments.

It reflects on craftsmanship as a process of care and responsibility, asking how contemporary practices can find value in inherited knowledge, existing materials and the stories embedded within them.

Gallery walkthrough and shared design narratives on Rethinking Heritage with Magic SimSim, Baarique, Olie & Vallari Harshwal Studio

Rethinking Heritage explores how cultural memory, traditional knowledge and lived experience are transformed into contemporary forms of artistic expression. Bringing together practices working across embroidery, light, metal and ceramics, the conversation considers how inherited traditions can move beyond preservation to become active sources of experimentation and innovation. From ancient techniques and visual narratives to personal memories and observations shaped by lives between cultures, these practices translate stories across materials, scales and contexts.

The discussion reflects on heritage as a living and evolving language, one that can be reinterpreted through contemporary design while continuing to carry the textures, emotions and cultural histories from which it emerges.

Design Futures with Falcon Cloak, Sharol Ahluwalia, Studio Nikasan, Peel Studio & Rajvi Amrelia

Design Futures brings together a new generation of designers whose practices are shaped by experimentation, curiosity and an expanding understanding of what design can be. Working across furniture, performance, textiles, ceramics, spatial practice and collectible design, these emerging voices move fluidly between disciplines and challenge established relationships between material, form and function.

From waste transformed into new materials and objects that imagine future relics, to furniture shaped by the inherent qualities of materials and spaces activated through movement, their practices reflect a willingness to question, test and speculate.
